Astra has seen demons her entire life. In the shadows, in her sleep, in her imagination. But now... they are real. Creatures she thought only existed in her worst nightmares come in the night and tear her away from her home and everyone she loves. In a faraway land, she has to adapt quickly. Unknown dangers lurk around every corner, and in order to live, she must question her every step and the intentions of everyone around her. The odds are stacked against her. Between the ferocious beasts, unpredictable weather, and blood thirsty plants, her chances are slim. To survive in this strange place takes everything she's got. Can she make it back home? Or will she die fighting?

This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 240 pages. Book excerpt: In authoritarian states, the discourse on freedom of speech, conducted by those opposed to non-democratic governments, focuses on the core aspects of this freedom: on a right to criticize the government, a right to advocate theories arid ideologies contrary to government-imposed orthodoxy, a right to demand institutional reforms, changes in politics, resignation of the incompetent and the corrupt from positions of authority. The claims for freedom of speech focus on those exercises of freedom that are most fundamental and most beneficial to citizens - and which are denied to them by the government. But in a by-and large democratic polity, where these fundamental benefits of freedom of speech are generally enjoyed by the citizens, the public and scholarly discourse on freedom of speech hovers about the peripheries of that freedom; the focus is on its outer boundaries rather than at the central territory of freedom of speech. Those borderline cases, in which people who are otherwise genuinely committed to the core aspects of freedom of speech may sincerely disagree, include pornography, racist hate speech and religious bigoted expressions, defamation of politicians and of private persons, contempt of court, incitement to violence, disclosure of military or commercial secrets, advertising of merchandise such as alcohol or cigarettes or of services and entertainment such as gambling and prostitution.

This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 640 pages. Book excerpt: "The Summa Theologica is the best-known work of Italian philosopher, scholar, and Dominican friar SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS (1225 1274), widely considered the Catholic Church s greatest theologian. Famously consulted (immediately after the Bible) on religious questions at the Council of Trent, Aquinas s masterpiece has been considered a summary of official Church philosophy ever since. Aquinas considers approximately 10,000 questions on Church doctrine covering the roles and nature of God, man, and Jesus, then lays out objections to Church teachings and systematically confronts each, using Biblical verses, theologians, and philosophers to bolster his arguments. In Volume III, Aquinas addresses: faith and heresy charity peace and war mercy, anger, and justice prayer truth and much more. This massive work of scholarship, spanning five volumes, addresses just about every possible query or argument that any believer or atheist could have, and remains essential, more than seven hundred years after it was written, for clergy, religious historians, and serious students of Catholic thought."

Book excerpt: “Wealth without work Pleasure without conscience Science without humanity Knowledge without character Politics without principle Commerce without morality Worship without sacrifice. https://vidjambov.blogspot.com/2023/01/book-inventory-vladimir-djambov-talmach.html If Prayer , or invocation of the name of God, belongs to the threefold Christian duty: to duty to God, duty to oneself and duty to one's neighbor. 1) It is our duty to God to show our faith in Him by prayer and His calling, that we truly believe in Him, we don’t know any other God except Him, we confess the source of all His blessings, hope on Him, as on The True Father, Who loves His children and offers what he asks, just like children in the flesh do not come to a strange father, but to their own, from whom they were born, they come with petition. And the apostle says: “How to call on him in whom they have not believed” ( Rom. 10:14 )? And the Lord God Himself says: “I am the Lord your God” ( Exodus 20: 2 ), that is, know Me alone, confess, trust Me alone and seek all good from Me. “Call Me on the day of your sorrow, and I will deliver you” ***** ( Ps. 49:15 ). 2) Duty in relation to ourselves: since we are both physically and spiritually meager, poor and cursed, we must in faith seek all good from the Giver of all blessings - Heavenly Father. 3) The following applies to the duty concerning the neighbor: Christian love requires us to pray for our neighbor, and both ourselves and him should be asked for good from our God, as the apostle says: “Pray for each other to be healed” ( James 5:16 ).

Book excerpt: Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago, encompassing nearly eighteen thousand islands. The fourth-most populous nation in the world, it has a larger Muslim population than any other. The Indonesia Reader is a unique introduction to this extraordinary country. Assembled for the traveler, student, and expert alike, the Reader includes more than 150 selections: journalists’ articles, explorers’ chronicles, photographs, poetry, stories, cartoons, drawings, letters, speeches, and more. Many pieces are by Indonesians; some are translated into English for the first time. All have introductions by the volume’s editors. Well-known figures such as Indonesia’s acclaimed novelist Pramoedya Ananta Toer and the American anthropologist Clifford Geertz are featured alongside other artists and scholars, as well as politicians, revolutionaries, colonists, scientists, and activists. Organized chronologically, the volume addresses early Indonesian civilizations; contact with traders from India, China, and the Arab Middle East; and the European colonization of Indonesia, which culminated in centuries of Dutch rule. Selections offer insight into Japan’s occupation (1942–45), the establishment of an independent Indonesia, and the post-independence era, from Sukarno’s presidency (1945–67), through Suharto’s dictatorial regime (1967–98), to the present Reformasi period. Themes of resistance and activism recur: in a book excerpt decrying the exploitation of Java’s natural wealth by the Dutch; in the writing of Raden Ajeng Kartini (1879–1904), a Javanese princess considered the icon of Indonesian feminism; in a 1978 statement from East Timor objecting to annexation by Indonesia; and in an essay by the founder of Indonesia’s first gay activist group. From fifth-century Sanskrit inscriptions in stone to selections related to the 2002 Bali bombings and the 2004 tsunami, The Indonesia Reader conveys the long history and the cultural, ethnic, and ecological diversity of this far-flung archipelago nation.
